Anyone who has ever served as a DCE or lived with a DCE or even really met a DCE knows that our schedules are a rollarcoaster ride of crazy. One week we might as well pack a bag and bring an air mattress to church because we have so much going. The next week we work something that resembles regular office hours. The one thing our schedules demand is living with an unknown amount of sleep. Depending on the day our bodies could get 4 hours, could be 10, who knows?
I'm beginning to think my body has wised up, got a look at the calendar, saw some open space in the next few weeks and decided it's going to sleep as much as it can as hard as it can. I can't blame it. I deprive my body of sleep for most of the year. It has a right to grab sleeping opportunities anyway it can.
However, my quest to be more participatory in my own life is a teeny bit hampered by my bodies determined demand for shut eye. When after taking a quick nap on Sunday, I settled in to write some and immediately fall asleep for another two hours. Last night I crawled into bed to read at 9:30 and was out before I turned the first page. I am no longer the master of my own sleeping patterns. Ah, well, I have to enjoy it while I can.
For those of you who are single, I discovered that this week is all free communication on EHaromony. I am trying to take advantage, hoping not to find love in less than a week, but rather to figure out if online dating is something worth investing in. Plus, it's good practice. I'll let you know what I discover.
On a sad note, I am not getting used to not having Karen in the office. I still look for her in her office occasionally, and I have done my best to resist talking to her about all things St. Paul. I got to see her for dinner last week and it was awesome as always. God is doing phenomenal things through her still. She is doing some work trying to see how we can support called workers who are without a call for whatever reason. (If you know someone like this, let me know so I can put you in contact with her.) Now that she has that job as Starbucks, I have a great excuse to kill two birds with one stone. Nice.
